History

  • Between 1950-1974 there were only 650 recorded Vietnamese immigrants.  After the fall of Saigon, 125,000 were recorded.
  • The first wave of immigrants came because they were affiliated with Americans and were highly skilled and highly educated.
  • The first wave of immigrants were transferred to refugee centers one of which was Camp Pendleton.
  • In 1977 the 2nd wave of immigrants started arriving to the United States. This wave continued until the mid 1980s.

California officially recognizes the pre-communist flag of Saigon as the United States government recognizes the current flag of Saigon.
